Pithflow

Tap once. Talk. Tap again to stop.

Push-to-talk is great for short messages, but long-form writing needs you to brainstorm without babysitting a key. Hands-free mode flips Pithflow into tap-on / tap-off. It is on every plan; what differs is how long one recording can run.

How it differs from push-to-talk

Default Pithflow is hold-to-speak: hold Ctrl + Space, talk, release, text appears. Hands-free is tap-to-toggle: tap Ctrl + Shift, talk freely, tap again to stop. Use whichever fits your current task.

Best for

Long-form essay drafting · Voice journaling · Walking meetings (use a Bluetooth headset) · Brainstorming sessions where you don't want to think about a button · Podcasting outlines

How long can one recording run

Pro and Team have no limit on how long a single recording can run. Tap to stop and tap again whenever you want to break a long session into pieces — Pithflow handles each part on its own.

Pairs with

The 'Speak' intent mode (natural conversational output) and the 'Casual' or 'Friendly' tone — good for first-draft brain dumps you'll clean up later.

Over Remote Desktop and Citrix

Hands-free runs on the same path as push-to-talk: the microphone is captured on your local machine, the audio is transcribed and cleaned on our servers, and the finished text is delivered into whatever window has focus — including a remote session. Nothing is installed inside the session, which is why it works in Citrix, RDP and VDI setups where browser extensions and built-in dictation cannot reach the remote window.

Frequently asked questions

Is hands-free mode available on the free plan?

Yes. Hands-free is on every plan, Free included. What differs by plan is how long a single recording can run: Pro and Team have no limit.

What is the hands-free hotkey, and can I change it?

The default is Ctrl + Shift — tap once to start, tap again to stop. Change it in Settings → Hotkey: the recorder captures whatever combination you press, and the global shortcuts are paused while you choose so the app does not react to the keys you are testing.

How do I stop a hands-free recording?

Tap the hands-free hotkey again. The recording ends, the audio is transcribed and cleaned, and the text lands in whatever field has focus — the same delivery as push-to-talk.

Does hands-free work over Remote Desktop, Citrix or a VDI session?

Yes, the same way push-to-talk does: your microphone is captured on the local machine and only the finished text goes into the remote window. Nothing has to be installed inside the session.

Can I switch between push-to-talk and hands-free without changing settings?

Yes. Both hotkeys are live at the same time: hold Ctrl + Space for a short message, tap Ctrl + Shift for a long session. Use whichever fits the moment.
